Taylor assinou um contrato de 13 anos com a gravadora Big Machine Records e lançou diversos álbuns quando ainda era uma adolescente. “Taylor Swift” (2006), “Fearless” (2008), “Speak Now” (2010), “Red” (2012), “1989” (2014) e “Reputation” (2017).

No final do contrato, a cantora fez uma proposta para comprar os masters das gravações dos seus seis discos, para ter controle sobre seu trabalho. Mas a gravadora não vendeu os direitos das músicas para Taylor. Ao invés disso, os vendeu para um empresário que administra as carreiras de outros grandes artistas.

Para adquirir os direitos sobre sua obra, ela decidiu regravar e relançá-la com a adição do título “Taylor’s Version”, indicando que esses novos discos pertencem mesmo a cantora.

Taylor signed a 13-year contract with Big Machine Records and released several albums when she was still a teenager. “Taylor Swift” (2006), “Fearless” (2008), “Speak Now” (2010), “Red” (2012), “1989” (2014) and “Reputation” (2017).

At the end of the contract, the singer made a proposal to buy the masters of the recordings of her six albums, to have control over her work. But the record company did not sell the rights to the songs to Taylor. Instead, she sold them to a manager who would manage the careers of other major artists.

To acquire the rights to her work, she decided to re-record and re-release it with the addition of the title “Taylor’s Version”, indicating that these new records really belong to the singer.
